Sweet Onion & Sausage Stromboli

INGREDIENTS:

  •   1/2 sweet onion, sliced
  •   1/2 red, yellow, and green pepper, sliced
  •   1/2 lb. Italian sausage, casings removed
  •   2 Tbsp. Campbell's Soups for Easy Cooking in Sweet Onion plus more for dipping
  •   1 1/2 c. shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  •   2 refrigerated French Bread dough tubes (11 oz. each)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Begin by putting your sausage, onion, and peppers in a large skillet and cooking until meat is no longer pink and peppers are tender. Drain excess fats.
  3. Add 2 Tbsp. Campbell's Sweet Onion Soup to the cooked meat mixture and stir to combine.
  4. Roll out your dough into a rectangle on the counter. There will be two.
  5. Divide the meat mixture between the two dough rectangles, leaving at least 1/2" of space around the edges.
  6. Sprinkle 3/4 c. mozzarella cheese on the top of each.
  7. Now roll dough and filling up, jelly roll style, starting on a long side. Pinch seams tightly together and place seam-side down on a greased cookie sheet. Cut 1/4 slits in the top of the dough about 2 inches apart. This will allow ventilation. These are not shown in the image above. Bake at 350 for 26-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • To make this a 30 minute meal, simply put the filling mixture on only half the dough and then fold it over calzone style, pinching the seams. Cut slits in the top, then, bake for 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 15-20 minutes. This method saves about 10 minutes because there won't be dough in the center to worry about cooking. Either way, it's a totally tasty, easy dinner idea!
