Filipino Style Calamares (Fried Squid) Recipe


INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 kilo fresh squid
  • 1 cup of flour
  • 2 scrambled eggs
  • 2 or 3 Tbsp. water
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 1 chopped clove garlic
  • salt & pepper
  • cooking oil
  • monosodium glutamate (vetsin) / any brandseasonings will do
For sour cream dipping:
  • half a cup of sour cream
  • half a cup of mayonnaise
  • 4 – 5 cloves garlic, chopped into finest
  • 1 tbsp salt and sugar
INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. Clean the squid and cut it into rings. Marinate with salt & pepper and set aside first.
  2. Put scrambled eggs in a bowl. Add flour and the 3 tbsp. of water. Mix them well until a smooth batter comes out. Then, it’s time to add the onion and garlic.
  3. Dip squid rings into the batter and deep fry for about 3-4 minutes or until the color will change into golden brown. Drain the squid rings from oil using a strainer. Serve it with your sour cream dip.
